UK tourism agency VisitBritain is to launch two new campaigns designed to encourage UK holidaymakers to take time off in domestic resorts and destinations rather than travel abroad.
A company spokesperson noted that while full details aren't yet available, the campaigns - Entitled Comedy England and Family Fun - will run during the summer.
Family Fun is in its third year and focuses on money-saving events and destinations that are suitable for those planning trips away with their children.
"Comedy England aims to promote destinations and locations with connections to comedy films and comedians - for which this country is renowned," said Visit Britain representative Elliott Frisby.
She added that events could be based on classic British comedies such as Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers.
According to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, Blackpool Pleasure Beach was the most popular visitor attraction, with 5.5 million people heading to the north-western seaside resort during the course of the year.
