People considering a trip to Cuba will be required to have a
travel insurance policy with medical coverage before they enter the country from May 1st 2010.
Foreigners granted temporary residence in Cuba should also have a health insurance policy during their time on the Caribbean island, according to the Cuban Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers.
Steve Diederich, managing director at Captivating Cuba, said that the country's renowned health service, which many people feel is the best in the world, will continue to accommodate visitors.
"As Cuba's healthcare system is excellent and world-renowned, it's not surprising that the government wants to cover its costs in this area," Mr Diedrich commented.
The Caribbean Tourism Organization is predicting a rebound in visitor arrivals in 2010, with growth expected for the region as a result of positive indicators from the fourth quarter of 2009.
It is also benefiting from an increased number of cruise holidays, which the tourism board believe is due to competitive pricing and an aggressive marketing strategy.
