With many firms looking to improve their green credentials, there is likely to be a drop in the number of people travelling on business, the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) suggests.
Commenting recently, Peter Lockley, head of transport policy at the group, said that research conducted by the WWF showed that 89 per cent of UK businesses contacted said that they planned to fly less during the next ten years.
Videoconferencing was identified as an effective alternative to holding meetings abroad.
Mr Lockley suggested that rising oil prices and the desire to improve green credentials would be key factors in spurring a reduction in the number of business flights that companies look to take.
He added that such a drop would have a significant effect on airlines bottom lines because business travel is typically more profitable than provision for economy passengers.
The WWF report, published in January, showed that 62 per cent of businesses are already reducing their corporate travel footprint.
