Those looking to make a saving on their holidays in a constrictive financial environment may wish to look to Warsaw, the Post Office suggests.

A new Cost of Culture report released by the group has suggested that the Polish capital was significantly cheaper than comparable weekend city breaks throughout Europe and North America.

The Post Office explains that while the pound will not fare as well as it did last year, cultural trips to the city can still be planned for as little as £75.

Helen Warburton, head of travel at the Post Office, said: "Although the best value is in Eastern Europe in Warsaw and Prague, cities with top notch arts attractions, we also looked at St. Petersburg and found it more expensive."

A trip to the Kirov Ballet in the Russian city was said to be more expensive than attending a performance by the UK Royal Ballet.

Last month, the Post Office revealed that long-haul flights were becoming a more attractive option as the cost of European holidays rose.
