Britons are increasingly choosing Easter breaks over summer holidays, according to new research.
A study by Travel Counsellors found that the amount being spent on holidays by UK residents went up 55 per cent on last year.
The research shows that an estimated £5.5 billion around £2,400 per booking - will be spent on Easter getaways this year.
Steve Byrne, managing director of Travel Counsellors, said: "These latest statistics show that Easter is becoming an increasingly prominent holiday for Brits.
"What with perceived high prices during the summer holidays and the excellent UK weather in July and August during recent years, it seems that an increasing number of holidaymakers are choosing to take their holiday at Easter."
The most popular destinations for spring breaks are the Canary Islands, Dubai and Sharm El Sheikh.
