Golf fanatics who are struggling to bear the UK's rains and blustery winds at present could do worse than look to the pistes of Salzburg in Austria for this year's Snowgolf World Championship.

Set against breathtaking snow-capped mountains of Abtenau, the nine-hole course is prepared by snow machines while the out of bounds areas are determined by deep natural snow. The putting surfaces (or 'whites') are prepared by hand to ensure a relatively even lie.

The course is a par 35 with fairways ranging between 100 and 450 metres and participants are encouraged to play with a coloured ball – for obvious reasons.

This year there will be extensive media coverage of the event and players will have access to top of the range facilities back in the town.

Places are limited and all entrants must sign up before January 29th so any snow-hungry golfers are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Snowgolf World Championship takes place from February 2nd to 4th.
