New research has shown that a third of all travel insurance claims are the result of accidents when people are taking part in winter sports.

A study from the Paul Rooney Partnership reported on World First says that the most injuries take place on the ski slope, with skiers most likely to damage their knees or thumbs.

Those who injure themselves whilst snowboarding are more likely to hurt their wrists, forearms or ankles.

A spokesperson said that skiing is growing in popularity with British holidaymakers but the fact that young men with not much previous experience on the slopes made up the biggest number of such tourists means it is important they ensure they have comprehensive travel insurance.

He went on to point out that the chances of being hurt on a winter sports holiday were much higher than a beach-based break.

In related news, the BBC recently reported that the World Cup snowboarding event is to take place in Battersea, London in October this year, with competitors including the British number one Dan Wakeham.
