Consumers may benefit from increasing their home insurance to cover the increased value of their property following major renovations, according to the British Insurance Broker's Association (Biba).

Steve Foulsham, technical services officer for the association, explains that if homeowners install a new, state-of-the-art kitchen, for example, then they may wish to increase the amount they are insured for in order to ensure that it is protected.

He also notes that the "general feeling" among providers is that if an installation could not be taken with the owners when they move home, then it is counted as part of the property and as such would be counted under building insurance rather than contents.

Biba represents the interests of insurance brokers, customers and intermediaries and also has partner members from leading firms in the insurance industry.

Consumers shopping around for a deal on home insurance may find that InsureandGo can provide them with a competitive quote for a policy.
