Women are far more likely than men to be concerned about whether their car affects the environment, according to Experian.

The company says that 65 per cent of women would be concerned about the eco impact of their vehicle, compared to 45 per cent of men. Women are also more likely to consider environmentally friendly attributes to be an important factor when buying a new car, with 30 per cent of women saying this.

Kirk Fletcher, managing director of Experian's automotive division, said: "Our research shows that the environment is clearly becoming a bigger concern for car owners.

The survey shows that the likelihood of a car owner considering the planet when purchasing a car changes not just with gender but with age, with 63 per cent of those surveyed aged between 55 and 64 saying the environment was a factor for them.

When asked the same thing, 52 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds said they would consider it to do with the purchase of a new car.

In related news, a survey from Experian recently found that the East Midlands is one of the most image conscious regions when it comes to buying a car, with ten per cent saying how a car effects their personal image is important.
