Kristina Pentland, communications manager for the consumer travel advice company, has said that a number of females are deciding to make solo trips for a variety of reasons.
As well as backpacking holidays, women are also choosing to take adventure holidays where they will meet like-minded people who share their interests.
Furthermore, she adds: "I think it's long been recognised that women wear the trousers when it comes to holiday decisions."
Recent research published by the company has found that women leading the way when it came to green travel, with 67 per cent of such holidays being booked by women.
Commenting on the findings, Ms Pentland added that a concern for environmental and social issues was increasingly encouraging females to choose ethical travel over mass tourism.
The company also found that community-based holidays were proving increasingly popular, with an 87 per cent rise reported during the 2006-07 season.
