The 2010 World Cup in South Africa could be the trip of a lifetime for some fans, but it could be an expensive one, meaning
cheap travel insurance could be on the agenda for those interested in travelling.
Tom Hall, travel editor for Lonely Planet, said the kind of money involved in following England at every game at this year's World Cup is unaffordable for most Brits.
He commented: "Bear in mind that you can often camp and self cater which keeps the costs down. The biggest costs are match tickets and flights. When you get to South Africa it is reasonably good value."
According to the Times, South Africa was hoping to attract as many as 450,000 visitors during this year's World Cup tournament. However, due to the distance fans would have to travel and the costs involved in buying matchday tickets, hotels and other expenses, ticket sales remain down.
The newspaper noted that England fans still have 6,000 unallocated tickets - out of their allotment of 29,000 - and even fans from the host nation are failing to live up to expectations.
InsureandGo offers cheap travel insurance for those planning a trip to South Africa this summer.
