Football fans planning on travelling to the World Cup in 2010 could be wise to use the time they have before jetting off to get cheap travel insurance and search for low-cost flights.

Tickets for the event - which is to be held in South Africa - are set to go on sale at 11:00 GMT today (February 20th).

In total, three million tickets for the 64 matches will go on sale.

Sports fan will have to apply for a ticket online, with the first random selection to take place in April.

BBC southern Africa correspondent Peter Biles said that there was "huge excitement" about the tournament among people there.

At least 400,000 people are expected to travel to South Africa next year, with Fifa hopeful that every game will be a sell out.
