A study carried out by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has revealed that young people who will be driving for a living require more training to improve their road safety.
Car insurance premiums could be significantly lowered for motorists and their employers if they avoid having accidents whilst behind the wheel.
The report noted that 60 per cent of businesses felt that young drivers were not being adequately prepared for the rigours of driving as a profession by the standard driving test.
Duncan Vernon, RoSPA road safety manager, said that face-to-face workshops set up by the organisation will help to bridge the skills gap faced by many of today's young drivers.
He added: "Many young drivers are currently required to drive in a context for which they are not adequately prepared, and these workshops offer a chance to address some of the issues they face."
Meanwhile, the Association of British Drivers has called for young people to be offered incentives to carry out additional training following the successful passing of their test, ranging from further car insurance premium reductions to plus points on their licence.
InsureandGo offers car insurance to motorists of all ages.
