Young drivers should be offered incentives to take further training and drive in a responsible manner, it has been argued.

At present, anyone taking additional training following their test can often benefit from reduced car insurance premiums; however, Hugh Bladon, founding member of the Association of British Drivers has called for the government to provide more incentives to encourage responsible driving practices for young motorists.

He argued that a "plus points" scheme could encourage drivers to take extra training and be safe.

Mr Bladon commented: "People who take [further driving courses] should automatically get some sort of benefit from it. There is the possibility of a reduced insurance premium through [the courses], but we think it should go further."

According to research carried out by TTE Systems in partnership with the University of Leicester, drivers can be easily distracted by listening to live sport on the radio while they are behind the wheel.

InsureandGo offers competitive car insurance for drivers of all ages.
