OK, so the chances a giant lizard a) exists and b) got trapped in this hole are pretty remote. But it’s a nice story, so shush.
Sights & smells
When I first heard someone talk about the Gate of the Sun, I thought maybe a hipster psychedelia band had dropped a new album. Or perhaps it was the name of an art installation at Burning Man Festival #socool. It turns out it actually literally might be a gate to the Sun…
Well, it’s all downhill from now, isn’t it? Last weekend, we had the longest day of the year. It was grey and cloudy; daylight hours well spent, then! Let’s hope it wasn’t cloudy in the Italian city of Bari, though.
Our capital city is London and, at the moment, everyone seems to be OK with that. There aren’t currently any plans to move it somewhere else. Although, I suppose we’ll have to wait to find out who the new mayor’s going to be before we make any assumptions. But a country suddenly moving their capital city elsewhere isn’t completely unheard of – it’s exactly what they did in Burma almost a decade ago.
In Split, Croatia, there is a statue that is meant to give people good luck. The statue is of Gregory of Nin (Croatian: Grgur Ninski) who was quite the legend back in his day.
One of the videos we used for our TV adverts since last year was a lovely train, slowly moving along a track. We knew it was pretty, and that it captured the serene feeling you get when you’re on holiday somewhere pretty, but we didn’t know just how popular it was going to be!
It’s been almost three years since our last round-up of rocks that look a bit like people, so I think it’s about time for another, don’t you?
If you’re an animal lover, I think it’s time to book that plane ticket to Japan.
If I asked you to name a pretty city with lots of canals, you’d probably come up with Venice. And you’d be right! But what about Giethoorn in the Netherlands. OK, it’s not a city, but Giethoorn is just as pretty as Venice and it also has lots of canals.
I should move here. Reasons to move: it’s really blue (the buildings, the paths, the stairs, most things), there are cats here, they have a regional goat’s cheese… OK, that’s only three reasons, but those reasons are really strong!
