Do I need a visa for Dubai?

You will require a visa to enter Dubai and you can obtain one when you arrive into the UAE. The visa should allow you to stay in Dubai for up to 30 days, but will be automatically terminated once you leave the country. Should you be coming and going on business trips, you may need to get a new visa each time.

You must have a work permit if you are coming to Dubai for a job or even if you are planning on doing odd-jobs to fund your stay. Find out more about entry requirements from the FCDO.

What laws should I be aware of in Dubai?

Dubai and the UAE are often seen in the press regarding the arrests of Brits abroad. Always be aware that you are travelling to a very strict and traditional part of the world. The FCDO list a number of laws and customs to be particularly aware of, including but not limited to:

Driving in Dubai

Contrary to popular belief, women are allowed to drive in Dubai – although you may not want to!

The roads in Dubai can be a minefield and crashes are common. There are a lot of speeding super-cars on the roads, as well as the occasional camel. If there is an accident, the roads often come to a standstill as people get a good look driving past – even though it’s illegal to rubberneck in Dubai.

Never – ever – be tempted to make hand gestures at other drivers should you be driving, a passenger or in non-car related situations. The same goes for swearing too – never ever swear at anyone in the UAE. Hand gestures and bad language are deemed highly offensive in the UAE and are punishable by fines or prison sentences.

Healthcare in Dubai

The hospitals in Dubai are some of the best in the world, so repatriation may not be too much of an issue depending on where you end up. But do make sure you have adequate medical cover as medical treatment will come at a cost!

Can you help if I need medical treatment while in Dubai?

Yes – all our policies come with access to our 24-hour emergency assistance team, so there will always be someone here to help you if you become ill or are injured while abroad.

If you need assistance just give our emergency medical team a call any time, day or night.
