According to BBC News, Monarch Airlines ceased trading at 4am today, and its 300,000 future bookings for flights and holidays have been cancelled.
This includes the following companies:
- Monarch Airlines Ltd
- Monarch Holidays Ltd (ATOL Number 2275)
- First Aviation Ltd (ATOL Number 4888) previously trading as Monarch Airlines
- Avro Ltd (ATOL Number 1939)
- Somewhere2stay Ltd
Here’s the Civil Aviation Authority’s advice on what you should do if you’ve got flights booked with Monarch:
- If you’re in the UK now, don’t go to the airport
- If you’re abroad now, you don’t need to cut your stay short – everyone due to fly in the next fortnight will be brought back to the UK at no cost. Check monarch.caa.co.uk for confirmation of your new flight details. These will be available a minimum of 48 hours before your original departure time
- If you have a flight booked but haven’t travelled yet, here’s what you need to know

- The CAA has a 24-hour helpline: 0300 303 2800 from the UK and Ireland, and +44 1753 330330 from overseas
There’s no cover for this under the cancellation or curtailment (cutting your trip short) sections of our travel insurance polices. If your policy includes scheduled airline failure insurance (SAFI), some cover may be available but only if you didn’t book your flights as part of a package holiday.
