Healthcare in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has universal healthcare, but the standards are often lower than in the UK and it can be difficult to get treatment outside of the main cities. In big cities like Colombo, Kandy or Galle, there are private hospitals as well as public ones. Private hospitals can reject you if you can’t show that you have appropriate travel insurance or that you have enough money to cover unexpected medical treatments. You must contact InsureandGo if you go into hospital or before incurring medical expenses in excess of £500.
Before you travel, please visit your GP to seek any medical advice or check if you need any vaccinations for your holiday destinations. If you have any medical conditions, then our travel insurance for medical conditions is available on Silver, Gold or Black policies – many conditions can be covered free of charge, but for others there may be an additional premium to pay.
