Holidaymakers are being warned to expect delays of up to 10 weeks when applying for a new passport. The costs of a passport application increased on the 2nd of February and many people rushed to meet the deadline.
Suella Braverman, the Home Secretary, reportedly told MPs: “We expect elevated demand for passports throughout the year – and demand can be volatile – so customers should continue to allow 10 weeks. I urge people to apply in good time and not at the last minute.“
The delays serve as a reminder that you should always check your travel documents are in order when booking a trip. Most destinations, including those in the EU, require that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after the end date of your trip. Make sure your passport is up to date and, if you need to apply for a new one, arrange it as soon as possible.
