If you have any trips planned this year, make sure your passport is up to date! If you need to apply for a new one, arrange it as soon as possible. A recent increase in the cost of passports at the start of the month has led to a surge in applications and delays in processing them. These delays will likely continue into the summer as millions of us hope to enjoy fantastic trips abroad.

Holidaymakers are being warned to expect delays of up to 10 weeks when applying for a new passport. The costs of a passport application increased on the 2nd of February and many people rushed to meet the deadline.
Suella Braverman, the Home Secretary, reportedly told MPs: “We expect elevated demand for passports throughout the year – and demand can be volatile – so customers should continue to allow 10 weeks. I urge people to apply in good time and not at the last minute.“
The delays serve as a reminder that you should always check your travel documents are in order when booking a trip. Most destinations, including those in the EU, require that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after the end date of your trip. Make sure your passport is up to date and, if you need to apply for a new one, arrange it as soon as possible.
It’s vital to check your documents, as travel insurance will not cover you if you can’t travel due to an invalid or out of date passport.
