Holidaying close to home and looking for UK travel insurance? Exploring all that the UK has to offer (and not facing an international flight first) can be the perfect break. Whether you’re going to Cardiff, Edinburgh or Jersey, we offer UK travel insurance for trips in the UK, as well as the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

All our policies include cover for cancellation of your holiday or your belongings being lost or stolen. Plus, you can enjoy protection for over 100 activities as standard.

What is UK travel insurance, and do you need it?

UK travel insurance has a whole range of benefits for your holiday. Although it’s not compulsory to get travel insurance for UK holidays, mishaps can happen, and it can offer you protection if something goes wrong.

While the UK is generally a safe country, accidents still happen, and crime can occur. For example, there were 2.8 million reported incidents of theft and around 127,161 road casualties in 2025. It makes sense to make sure you’re fully protected, even for a domestic holiday.

Many situations are covered with a UK travel insurance policy, including:

Always make sure you read our policy wording to see the full terms and conditions and what is and isn’t included.

What does InsureandGo’s UK travel insurance cover?

What’s covered?

Our travel insurance for the UK includes trips in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
Our UK travel insurance policies include:

  • Cover for cancellation of your trip
  • Over 100 sports and activities covered (see your policy wording for a full list of activities)
  • Personal belongings and baggage cover
  • Personal money, passports and travel documents cover
  • Accommodation cover
  • Legal expenses cover
  • Delayed departure cover
  • Personal accident cover
  • Emergency medical expenses in certain circumstances (see below for more details)

What’s not covered?

We strive to provide the best cover possible; however, there are some situations that no travel insurance will cover. For example:

  • You cannot cover events or reasons to claim that took place before you booked the trip or purchased insurance. Insurance exists to cover unexpected events outside of the insured’s control
  • Claims which are less than the excess for that section of cover. For example, you cannot claim a £40 lost item if your baggage excess is £60
  • All of our UK travel insurance policies include cover for cancellation of your trip, but there may be some exclusions. For example, you won’t be covered to cancel if you simply decide not to go

As long as you have booked accommodation for a minimum of two nights, our UK travel insurance will cover you. Our UK travel insurance policies will not cover:

We will consider all pre-existing medical conditions as long as you declare them before purchasing your policy, and we have no upper age limit.

The excess and amount of cover available varies depending on the level of UK travel insurance you buy. Make sure you check the policy wording to see the full terms and conditions, including what is and isn’t covered.

Travel insurance for the UK with pre-existing medical condition cover

We will consider all medical conditions for our UK travel insurance policies and have no upper age limit. When you get a quote, we will ask you a few simple questions about your health. These may lead to a medical screening process where we ask for further details.

Remember, UK travel insurance will not cover you for emergency medical care if you’re holidaying somewhere where you are a resident. However, you must still notify us of any pre-existing medical conditions before you buy a policy. This ensures you are covered for cancellation or curtailment if you need to change your plans due to your medical condition.

You will be covered for emergency medical care if you’re visiting a place outside your home country. For instance, if you’re a UK resident visiting the Channel Islands, or from Jersey and visiting the UK. You must declare your pre-existing medical conditions when buying your policy to make sure you’re covered for emergency medical costs in these cases.

Make sure you read our policy wording to understand what is and isn’t covered when buying insurance for pre-existing medical conditions.

UK travel insurance FAQs

Do you need travel insurance for a UK holiday?

It isn’t compulsory to buy UK travel insurance; however, it can offer a range of benefits to help you if something goes wrong on your holiday. This includes cover for cutting short your trip for certain reasons, or replacing belongings that are damaged or stolen. UK travel insurance can help cover costs that would otherwise leave you facing high bills yourself.

Do you need a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) to holiday in the UK?

It is sensible to apply for a GHIC card if you are visiting any of the places covered by the scheme, where you are not a resident. However, it is still recommended that you buy travel insurance. The GHIC scheme will not cover all medical expenses or medical repatriation. Plus travel insurance will also cover you for other things going wrong, such as cancellation of your trip or your bag being stolen.

Do you need travel insurance for Jersey from the mainland UK?

Yes, you do. While Jersey feels close to home, it isn’t part of the UK and isn’t covered by the NHS. That means if you need medical treatment while you’re there, you could end up facing unexpected costs.

Travel insurance for Jersey gives you peace of mind by covering medical expenses, trip cancellations, lost luggage, and more. So you can explore the island’s beaches, coastal paths and charming towns without a worry.

Does UK travel insurance cover camping and festivals?

Yes, our travel insurance UK policies cover you if you have booked to go camping and have to cancel for certain reasons. The costs of your pre-booked pitch/accommodation will be covered. However, baggage left unattended in a tent cannot be covered if it is damaged, lost or stolen. Read our policy wording for full details.

Note: Festival tickets cannot be covered as the pitches are not pre-arranged.
