We think everyone deserves a holiday, so our travel insurance has no upper age limit. Going away can be more difficult in later life with complications, such as health conditions. We will consider any pre-existing medical condition, no matter your age. This means you’ll be covered for any emergency medical expenses. Plus you’ll be protected for cancellation, lost luggage and more. This means you can enjoy your travels, relaxed and worry-free.

What is travel insurance for seniors, and why do you need it?

The NHS predicts that 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 and half of those over 80 will have a fall this year.

If this were to happen while you were on holiday, you could rack up high bills if you don’t have a travel insurance policy. Some insurers have a limit, and they won’t cover anyone over a certain age. We believe everyone should get to relax on holiday, which is why we have no upper age limit.

Our policies provide cover for medical emergency expenses, cancellation and more, regardless of how old you are:

We’ve made it easy to arrange our senior travel insurance, so you can get on with looking forward to your holiday:

  • Hassle-free help: Get a quote quickly and easily, or if you’ve already bought your policy and have some questions, get in touch with our friendly team. Plus, our 24/7 emergency helpline is available for all policyholders if you need help while you’re away
  • Cover your pre-existing medical conditions: We will consider any pre-existing medical condition. This includes concerns like diabetes, cancer and heart conditions
  • Cover if something gets in the way of your holiday: If you have to cancel your holiday for reasons outside of your control – such as a family emergency or bereavement – the last thing you want is to be out of pocket. Our cancellation cover could help
  • Travel for just as long as everyone else: Our single trip travel insurance lets you travel for up to 365 days. Meanwhile, the length of trip you can take on our annual policies varies depending on your level of cover. This ranges from 31 days on Budget policies to 55 days on Black policies. This is regardless of age, so you don’t miss out when buying no age limit travel insurance
  • Get over 100 activities included as standard: All of our policies include over 100 activities already. If you’re up to something a little different, we have a variety of add-on cover, from golf to extreme sports

Read our policy wording for full details of what is and isn’t included in seniors’ travel insurance.  Consider visiting your GP before you head off, to make sure they’re happy for you to travel. Take plenty of medication and check the local rules for bringing prescription medications into the country.

What does InsureandGo’s senior travel insurance cover?

It’s important to make sure you have the cover you need, including medical emergency expenses and any activities you plan to do:

What’s covered?

Our travel insurance with no upper age limit includes:

  • Medical emergency expenses
  • Cover for cancellation of your trip
  • Our 24-hour emergency assistance team, available to call, day or night, wherever you are
  • Over 100 sports and activities covered (see your policy wording for a full list of activities)
  • Personal belongings and baggage cover
  • Personal money, passports and travel documents cover
  • Accommodation cover
  • Legal expenses cover

What’s not covered?

We try to provide as much cover as possible; however, there are some situations that travel insurance will not cover. For example:

  • You cannot cover events or reasons to claim that took place before you booked the trip or purchased insurance. Insurance exists to cover unexpected events outside of the insured’s control
  • Claims which are less than the excess for that section of cover. For example, you cannot claim a £40 lost item if your baggage excess is £60
  • All of our travel insurance policies include cover for cancellation of your trip, but there may be some exclusions. For example, you won’t be covered to cancel if you simply decide not to go

Planning something a bit different? Add extra protection for activities like extreme sports, cruises and golf with our optional add-ons.

We’ll also consider all pre-existing medical conditions. Just tell us about them when you get a quote. Learn more about our medical travel insurance and how we can help.

Your excess and cover limits will depend on the level of travel insurance you choose. Be sure to check the policy wording for full details of what’s included.

Seniors’ travel insurance, even with pre-existing medical conditions

We will consider all pre-existing medical conditions, no matter your age. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure or cancer and are looking for travel insurance with no age limit, talk to our team to get a quote.

You must declare your pre-existing conditions when you buy a travel insurance policy. We make it quick and easy with our medical screening process. If you don’t tell us about your condition, you will not be covered if something happens related to it.

Conditions we can cover also include:

Travel insurance for seniors FAQs

Is there usually an age limit for travel insurance?

Many travel insurers have an age limit, refusing to insure anyone over a certain age. The age limit will vary and will be chosen by the insurance provider.

We believe age shouldn’t hold you back. That’s why our policies have no upper age limit. Whether you’re planning a relaxing beach break or a big bucket-list adventure, we’ll help you travel worry-free at any age.

Does travel insurance for seniors cost more?

Unfortunately, travel insurance for seniors does tend to cost more. That’s because, statistically, the chances of making a claim and the cost of those claims are higher. It’s similar to how younger drivers often pay more for car insurance.

However, at InsureandGo, we aim to keep premiums fair and transparent. We’ll consider your individual circumstances, not just your age. And with no upper age limit on our policies, you can still get cover that suits your needs, without overpaying.

Can a 90-year-old buy travel insurance?

Here at InsureandGo, we have no upper age limit, meaning even those in their 90s (or even 100s!) can buy travel insurance for their holiday. Policies include cover for over 100 sports and activities. Always read the policy wording for full terms and conditions.

Can older adults buy travel insurance with family?

Absolutely! You can cover every generation, from children to grandparents, and even great-grandparents, on one of our family travel insurance policies. It’s quick and easy to do and means that everyone is covered for that special family trip. Or if you travel together a lot, take a look at our annual travel insurance for families.

Who can buy an InsureandGo travel insurance policy?

All our travel insurance policies are available to UK residents. This means:

  • Someone who has been living in the UK or the Channel Islands for at least six of the last 12 months
  • They must be in the UK at the time of purchase
  • All trips must start and end in the UK
