Travel insurance for over 60s

If you’re looking to travel abroad without the doubt of finding the right over 60s holiday cover, then we might have the perfect policy for you.

As you get older, finding the right travel insurance can be tricky as you’ll be seen as being a higher risk for medical claims, even if you’re fit as a fiddle. But if you do have a medical condition, no problem – you can buy travel insurance for over 60s with medical conditions.

At InsureandGo, we want to provide hassle-free insurance for as many people as possible, including our older travellers who still like to travel and explore.

What does it cover?

Single and annual trip travel insurance

Choosing an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy means you can travel as often as you like to or from your chosen region of cover, throughout the year for a one off price. Our Budget policy allows you to be out of the country for up to 31 days at a time, Silver and Gold give you 45 days, and a Black policy will cover multiple trips of up to 55 days.

If you want to be abroad longer than that, no problem! Our single trip travel insurance can cover a one-off trip of up to 365 days, whatever your age!

If you’re looking to travel with family or in a group, then maybe our family travel insurance or group travel insurance would suit you.

Pre-existing medical conditions for over 60s & 65s

InsureandGo policies have no upper age limit and we’ll consider any medical conditions that you may have.

You will need to declare any pre-existing conditions, which means we’ll need to ask you some questions to see if any additional premium is required.

This may apply if you have any of the following:

For more information on our travel insurance for medical conditions, visit the page or have a look at our policy documents.

What’s optional?

What’s the point in having a policy that includes stuff you don’t need cover for? Or a policy that doesn’t include the holiday insurance cover you need? That’s why we offer a range of optional upgrades, like:

Cruise travel insurance

Planning on taking a cruise as well? Then you’ll need to add our specialist cruise travel insurance to your policy.

Just like our standard travel insurance for the over 60s, we can consider any pre-existing medical conditions on our cruise travel insurance, which also has no upper age limit.

Our cruise holiday insurance includes extra cover for a number of cruise-specific eventualities including cabin confinement, interruption, itinerary changes and more.

Travel tips for over 60s

Being 60 or over shouldn’t stop you from travelling the world to your heart’s content. But there are some things you should consider when travelling in your sixties.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a GHIC card as well as travel insurance?

You should carry a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) whenever you travel to Europe. The EHIC or GHIC will cover  any necessary treatments you may receive at public hospitals on your trip. However, it’s still vital to have European travel insurance to cover the costs of any unexpected medical treatment the EHIC or GHIC might not cover.

What is considered a pre-existing condition for travel insurance?

We consider a medical condition to be pre-existing if any person insured on this policy has:

  • Taken any prescribed medication or received medical treatment within the last 2 years
  • Been registered in or outpatient at a hospital, clinic or GP surgery in the last 2 years.
  • Been advised of a terminal illness.

You must inform InsureandGo of any pre-existing medical conditions you have before purchasing insurance. To do so, you can use our quick and easy online medical screening system.

How far in advance should I get travel insurance?

You should make sure you have your over 60s travel insurance in place as soon as your trip is booked. This means you’ll be covered in the event you cannot go on your trip. If you have already booked your trip, you should arrange cover as soon as possible. At the very least, you should have travel insurance before you leave the UK.

What is the maximum age you can insure up to?

We have no upper age limit on our policies. However, our additional winter sports cover is only available up to age 65.

Does travel insurance go up after 60?

Your age does affect the cost of the policy, alongside several other factors. This is due to the fact that, sadly, travellers over 60 are more likely to make a costly claim. It’s similar to younger drivers paying higher car insurance premiums.
