Over 75s travel insurance

If you’re over 75, you’ve now got the time and the freedom to experience the best the world has to offer in a way you couldn’t when work and young families were the priority. You can take that round-the-world cruise, ride the Orient Express, and learn how to paint in the French countryside, or even go glamping on an African safari. For others, it’s the best time to kick back and relax, even to spend most of the year soaking up the sun in a holiday home!

However you choose to take advantage of your freedom, more than often you may be as fit as you ever were, but find getting cost effective travel insurance sometimes feels like it’s more difficult than it should be.

We try to make the process easy, so that you can enjoy your travels without hassle and with the insurance protection you need. Our policies are tailor-made to your needs and there are a few levels of insurance cover that are specifically designed for travellers aged over 75.

Do premiums rise if you're over 75?

In general, premiums double for each 10 years of life over age 65. This increase is reflected in the cost of insurance as well as excess rates for over 75s. Why is this?

How is your travel insurance affected if you are over 75 and have existing medical conditions?

InsureandGo will consider any existing medical conditions, with no upper age limit, although the conditions can cause travel insurance premiums to rise considerably. Undisclosed medical conditions will not be covered, so it’s important to be up-front about your medical history when you purchase your policy. Refer to pages two, three and 13 of the InsureandGo Single and Annual Cover policy wording booklet - which you can find here - for details of medical conditions under your insurance policy.

Does the cover available change across different age bands?

The total amount of compensation payable in cases of disability or death is reduced from £20,000 (or £50,000 on InsureandGo’s Gold level cover) to £2,500 for people aged 66 and over. Pages four and five of the policy wording booklet have details of excess rates and compensation levels available to different age bands.

Does the cost of travel insurance change depending on where you're going to travel?

Travel insurance costs increase as you go further from home because of increased costs of treatment for injury or illness, or for travelling back home in case of illness or emergency. Destinations are divided into five categories, from UK travel in Area 1, within Europe in Area 2 and other worldwide countries in Areas 3, 4 and 5. Page 12 of the policy wording booklet has further details.

What types of activities are excluded from our over 75s travel insurance?

You'll be glad to know that nothing is specifically excluded from our travel insurance just because you're over 75. So whether it’s a hazardous activity or skiing your favourite black run, the options required for these kinds of activities are as open to you as anyone else.

Our over 75s travel insurance covers some of the most common problems you might run into while abroad, but you can enquire with us to find out if you can purchase extra cover, such as cruise insurance. Whatever you plan to do, preparing for any eventuality can help you get the most out of a well-deserved trip.
